The Napa Valley Exposition is offering for sale one of a kind large collection of horse drawn buggies and carriages. The George and Ruth Geis Collection was gifted to the Expo in 1996 by George as his health began to fail. The Expo intended to restore, showcase and house them in a purpose-built museum. That museum never materialized and the conveyances have been sparingly displayed and stored for the last 30 years.
Geis assembled the collection of 19th century vehicles over the course of 40 years with the intention of showing future generations that the world wasn’t always so speedy. The diverse collection includes a San Francisco funeral wagon, blistered in the ’08 quake, a Chariot from the 1923 Hollywood film Ben Hur, a giant steam powered thresher…
